View Full Version : Dreamweaver and FTP
I can't get Dreamweaver to FTP to my new account at 216.74.100.93 . I can connect to it fine using an FTP program, and I can connect to my other accounts fine. Any ideas?
Thanks,
Elan!

It's puzzling... Never ever used to have trouble using dreamweaver 4's built in FTP. But for the past week, I've had to either put in a work ticket or go thru aim go get the durn thing to work. And then it only connects once or twice, then I'm out of luck again. Support says it's some problem with dw creating "ghost sessions", but I just hope they figure it out soon. It's a major pain and slows work on my site to a crawl since I have to flip between dw and another separate ftp program. *sigh* Any other dw users having the same problem? If so, any hints on how to fix it?
I only tried to use DW's FTP once, it gave me nothing but grief!
So now I just use WS FTP
I didn't think it was worth the effort to persue it.
Sorry I can't be more help.
There's quite a bit of info on Macromedia's site, I haven't had time to read it yet but it may help you

a simple solution would be to only use an ftp client to transfer files (i.e. ws_ftp) rather than using an editor's ftp version.
i never use golive or dreamweaver's ftp functions....only asking for trouble. :)
There's quite a few threads about this problem on various newsgroups, take a look at this one

Went to macromedias site and it said it is mostly a server issue. I have cuteFTP and can use it, but it's *very* inconvenient to have to flip between two programs. The dreamweaver ftp will let me upload/get a page directly and will let me synchronize easily. What freaks me out is that the dw ftp has been rock solid stable for months, but now doesn't want to seem to connect a good portion of the time... I even reinstalled dw and reset the ftp for a longer timeout period. Didn't help much... *sigh*
update: Today, I've connected 3 times with no problem, so maybe brendan and the guys have figured it out... :)

It much better to use another client. easier too.
I had a problem there a few days ago where one FTP program (CuteFTP) would not long in at all. Kept saying incorrect login but LeapFTP worked fine. 3 days later it worked again so i think it may have just been HR messing arounf for a little bit. may be upgrading or something or doing maintence.
LeapFTP is probably the easiest one to use out of all FTP clients like Cute and WS (ws sux). Check it out.

If you are using dreamweaver 4, it is *much* nicer to use the built in ftp. It synchornizes better and you don't have to constantly flip between programs...
