I am trying to upload a large number (approx. 50) of image files using FTP. Regular html files transfer fine but these image files are relatively large (700kb) and it just isn't working. The connection times out and nothing is transferred. Initially, I tried using Frontpage, but the program hangs when trying to retrieve the file listing from my hostrocket location. I have also tried CuteFTP and it just won't transfer. I forget the exact error message I've been receiving. I've filed a trouble ticket, but I was wondering if anyone else is experiencing problems.

I moved 89mb of files and know what you're talking about. I had to start uploading in small batches of 2-3 images at a time. I found I had better luck uploading directly through the file transfer via the control panel. It's very painstaking, but I have always found ftp to be very slow, no matter what type of files I'm uploading. Sometimes it takes a full minute or more just for the directory list to load. Occasionally, things move quickly, but I'm always surprised when that happens. It's the only complaint I have about HostRocket. I have two other websites, and have never seen anything like the ftp access here. I used to upload one file at a time on the old control panel and it would go faster than ftp. I thought that would be fixed on the new server, but it's still slow as ever.

Thanks Tyler, for your reply. I'm glad to know it is not only me, but on the other hand, my site is primarily photographs and so not being able to FTP large batches of large files quickly and reliably seems like a fairly major drawback of an otherwise excellent service.

Follow-up questions for the HostRocket team: Is this problem generally known? Are there any plans to fix it?
