Has anyone used phpBB? I am currently working with Ikonboard, and I would like to learn how to install phpBB. I am familiar with FTP, and I could probably do it with someone's help. I don't really know mySQL or PHP, but I am a quick learner. I downloaded it, and read the instructions, but they really aren't written on a "newbie" level. If you are willing to help, email me at:
bryan@balakracing.com
my AOL IM screen name is: Balakracing
Thanks!

Have you tried installing phpBB yet? I'm a complete idiot when it comes to mysql and php but I was able to install it on a subdomain( After a little experimenting.) If you still want advice I can tell you what worked for me and what didnt.

Hi,
Just installed it last week. See it at:
http://www.lovedstuff.com/phpBB
VERY easy to install no problems except that YOU need to create a blank Mysql DB. The install script can't do it for you the way HR is set up.
The only other thing you need to do is chmod on the config.php before and after install as indicated in the install doc. That's it!!!
Nice board - not as nice as VB but the price is right!!!

Yeah, very nice for the money.
My only warning is to not change anything in the config.php file as the directions indicate. When I tried doing that, thinking I knew what I was doing, I fouled everything up and had to start over.
But when I did as you said, chmod and created a blank db, everything went smooth.

entropy,
I installed phpBB some time ago. It includes a link called "Members List" that lists all members. Did you disable this function? If so, how did you do it?
