I agree with Strick... the new design is very distracting. Too much noise.

We made a few changes that seem to make it easier on the eyes. Any better?

I still prefer the old one much better, personally. The changes are welcome, but the overload of diagonally-edged elements in the header (quick search, tabs, logo, top-right stuff) is still too much for my tastes.

I agree with Strike. The old look was, to me anyway, more aesthetically pleasing. I personally prefer cleaner, simpler styles over eye candy for my websites.
However, it's easier to login with this new style.
