Windows API Examples

I just started my Computer Sceince course, it is a little boring for me so I want to do a little programming with the Windows API.

I am looking for some examples and tutorials, as well as places that list each command and what it does. I have been at the MSDN Library, but it is a giant pain to navigate.

Does anyone know of any good resources? If not, I will just force myself to have the patience to use the MSDN Library.

I suggest Charles Petzold's excellent book "Programming Windows." It is in its 5th edition (iirc) and will explain everything quite clearly. Don't be put off by its 1,400+ page size; its easy to read.
