Hey everyone. Has anyone done any type of texture mapping in java? I've been researching it for the past 2 days, and I can't find anything useful. If anyone has done this, or has links, or anything, I would appreciate it.

Thanks

Start searching for articles by Michael Abrash or search for the graphics tutorials by "Denthor". Here's one link http://www.gamedev.net/reference/list.asp?categoryid=40

You should be able to find a lot of theoretical information but probably not a lot on how to do it in Java. You'll have to roll your own engine.

If you can find Abrash's book : "Zen of Graphics Programming, 2nd Edition: Master the Art of Creating Fast PC Games and Graphics Applications" then that will help you a lot. I think that Dr. Dobbs Journal use to sell a CD with all of Michaels books on them. The paper versions are probably out of print by now.

For those of you who don't know about him, Michael Abrash is a programmer who worked for MS when they were developing WIndows NT. MS had him writing the VGA drivers for NT and Mike decided that VGA was old technology. So in his spare time he wrote a complete set of SVGA drivers for Windows NT. He then went to work for ID software and seriously optimized the graphics routines for Doom and Quake.

He's also a major assembly language guru who has spent hours, or even days figuring out how to optimize a routine by just a few clock cycles. This guy is one of the world's top programmers. Anything you can find that was written by him is gold.

Have you looked at the Java 3D API and OpenGL?

He's doing this for a computer graphics class at school. I'm pretty sure he's not allowed to use the Java 3D API. Instead, he is able to use some of the Java 2D API to build his own working implementation of texture mapping.
