ok, i'm doing this internship thing for my school, and the first portion on my project is to turn a couple of .psd files into html pages. my teacher (the guy i'm answering to) says that (using photoshop 7) i can outline (read: draw squares around) certain portions of the image and make the whole thing into one big html page...

now, i can't get a hold of him atm, so i'm wondering if any of you guys have ever had to do this before or know how it's done...

please help :)

thanks

just a guess, but, i think he meant you have to export the psd file into an image then "cut" the image in photoshop then export "save for web" - which will automatically create the html page for you with all the cut images neatly arranged in a table.

Ick... if that's what you have to do, then do it... but, being the clean-cut perfectionist that I am... I usually just use CSS positioning and position all the cut-up images together rather than using tables... tables can just get messy when you deal with images.

roninblade was correct.. He wants you to use the slice tool, just take that and draw out the different images you want to make from the main image. Then just go to save for web and photoshop will handle the rest.

You can also change the names of the slices by going to the slice edit tool and double clicking on any of the boxes you made previously.

Hmmm.... I have Photoshop 6, so this may not apply. Photoshop comes bundled with ImageReady, which allows you to define Image Maps. This may (or may not!) be what is being refered too, as well.
