Yes, they can network. Several ways. One of which is known as SAMBA. Basically, it's the windows equivilant of File sharing for unix/linux.
However, this doesn't seem like what you're asking.
If you mean "can linux and windows co-exsist on one machine?" then, yes, they can. There is a bit of work involved though.
If you mean, "Is the GUI easy enough for Windows users to understand and transistion over to?" then, this all depends on the person. Some people find it's very easy to make the switch. Some people abhor the changes to their interface. Most people fall inbetween these two extremes. A helpful hint would be to make sure that all your families windows applications/needs have linux equvilents. If you need help finding such applications, a good place to begin your search is http://freshmeat.net
I think that about covers it for now.

Also, if you mean "Can linux and windows cohabitate on the same network (i.e. share a router or a hub)" then the answer is absolutely.

And if you mean "Is mandrake the coolest OS ever" then the answer is, without doubt :)
and if it means that linux is a sick, sick OS...and sucks beyond limits...then you are ABSOLUTILY correct !!!.... LOL
JUST KIDDING.....I had to do it.....ahhh....whatever....i am outta here.....later ;)
