Visual Basic Control Creations edition 5 is the only free LEGAL version of Visual Basic........ it can be downloaded here:

note: I have not downloaded or ran this program.

Maybe you should download it and then posts how you feel. I was going to download it but I was afraid it would overwrite many of my other Visual Basic .DLL's etc.

Um...no. The point of my post was to point out that the "free" you meant was only with respect to cost, not "free" as in "source freely available". :)

yes your are correct... that is the only FREE legal version... although you can also find (i dont know if i should say this on a forum) illigal versions of the whole thing.

that's not what he was saying.

we know that you can download that software free of charge. no one has contested that. (like "free beer")
he is saying that the source code for the software is not freely available. if the source code WERE included, then it would be truly free (as in "free speech")
