because postgres supports more standard sql then mysql and has better support for foreign keys.

Postgres also has full ACID compliance. However, its major downfall is it not working on Windows platforms..mysql is still a pretty solid database.

real men don't need foreign keys-- see the MySQL help on why they were excluded =)
i would try Posgres, it just doesn't work on wNT. and i'm not about to emulate an sql database

2 words:
referential integrity
MySQL cannot do this, which is why PostgreSQL is better. However, if you just need a 1 table DB, or multiple unrelated tables, MySQL is better because it's built to be super-duper fast.

I have a weblication created with PHP on the frontend, MySQL on the backend, and PERL performing maintenance for a Project Management intranet site. While I admit that Referential integrity is key, I have found a way to code around it.
No probs thus far

Hmm maybe this forum should be changed to "Databases" instead of mysql. We wouldn't want anyone to start any flames now would we? :)
