Who's you're ISP? Sometime they force you to use only their SMTP servers. Of coruse that doesn't explain the POP problem but it may offer another place to start...

Try putting a check next to the "authenticate" option.

Yes, you need to authenticate with the SMTP server.

I am having the same problem SENDING email. I have had my settings the same for over a year now, and checked them again to see if anything *changed*.
Is it possible that SBC DSL has decided I need to use their SMTP server?
The error number I get is 0x800ccc0f
Any ideas?

It could be. My ISP requires me to use their STMP servers. They use to not, but they switched alot of things to new servers, and when they did, that is when they started requiring me to use their STMP servers. It is stupid in my opinion, but that is their way of helping to fight spam, by making the spammers use their servers?
