So I got a PS2 for Christmas (okay, so really my little sister got it) and I got GT3 for it. All I can say is wow... Kick ass game. I can't wait for GT4 to come out - it looks amazing!

Heh - I got that game like a year ago. Unfortunately, after having a baby I haven't turned on my PS2 for months.

If you have Xbox, you should try the latest Need for Speed, it's got a great look to it. :)

I used to think that Sega's "Outrun" was the best racing game ever. Then my cousin came over and beat it in 30 minutes... I was pretty pissed. Of course this was 10 years ago.

Underground 2? Too much rice.

And you know it's available on PS2, Gamecube, and more importantly PC, right? Not just Xbox...

The latest Need for Speed title.

The NFS titles, in order, are (to the best of my knowledge):

(SE = Special Edition and it's just the normal title's engine plus extra cars and tracks)

- Need for Speed
- Need for Speed SE (I think there was an SE)
- Need for Speed II
- Need for Speed II SE
- Need for Speed III - Hot Pursuit
- Need for Speed (4) - High Stakes (this is really III SE, but Porsche Unleashed which was going to be #4 wasn't ready, or so I hear that's the story)
- Need for Speed (5) - Porsche Unleashed (this game had almost every production Porsche in it and was arguably the best NFS title, it's physics have yet to be beat by another NFS title)
- Need for Speed (6) - Hot Pursuit II (the last "real" NFS title, but was pretty much an arcade game -- no damage or that realistic of physics)

Then there's the "Underground" titles that were released under the NFS title, but shouldn't be IMO as they aren't exotics or anything, just cars that you rice out. *barf*

- Need for Speed (7) - Underground
- Need for Speed (8) - Underground 2

NFS 6, 7, and 8 are available for PC and all three consoles. I think NFS:PU might have made a small console showing a while after it was released, but I can't remember.

So what sets NFS apart from other racing games? I haven't gotten into them much because I found them kind of redundant... race for money, buy parts that I don't understand, race for more money...

To... race. I mean, the only real objective in racing games is to race and win. Not a true point really.

NFS Underground 2 is fun, at least for people really into cars. You can trick out the cars and then race them. It's a good way to see what you can do to a car - add different exhausts, trim, wheels etc. You can spend as much time or more just outfitting your car as you do actually racing. Some people are into that, the whole car thing, and for them, they are great games.
