I've been playing this one with my nephew a lot since it came out. Just curious if this is a popular game with this crowd? I don't think it is as good as the hype made it out to be, but it sure is an improvement over the first one.

Halo 2 is pretty good if you are into that FPS / URT / Quake type of thing. I have enjoyed playing it, but personally I think it's a little boring just shooting aliens. Also I think the game has been hyped up way too much for what it is. I like Doom 3 on the PC better as far as these types of games go.

I hear what you are saying. I like strategy games better, personally. But for what it is, I enjoy playing it once in a while. Helps work out my agressions. ;)

I don't mind Halo 2 but I prefer playing Half Life 2/Counter Strike Source much better because it is more realistic in my opinion. And like you I would much rather play a strategy game. I wish the Battlezone series wouldn't have died like it did because that game was a great mix between action and strategy.

I prefer MMORPG games like City of Heroes. I have had my eye on Everquest II also. Looks cool.

Not a Halo 2 fan myself mostly because I don't like consoles much. Halo 1 for the PC was already, but I prefer HL2 and the Battlefield series.

I want to get the Battlefield games, too. I will if I see them on sale somewhere, but I've never seen a really good deal on them, such as when I picked up Ghost Recon 2 this morning at Kmart for $20.

I'm not a big fan of console games, according to reviwers in game magazines, Halo isn't anything special on the PC, so when they ported the game to the PC, many people laughed at it and said what's the big deal everyone was making, they have games like Half Life and System Shock 2 that was much better and been out for a much longer time,

To be frank, like HL, the Battlefield series is at it's best with mods - Desert Combat (http://www.desertcombat.com/) for BF42 (the people who made this mod got hired to make BF2 IIRC) and Point of Existence (http://www.pointofexistence.com/) for BFV (I was a beta tester for a while, but got too busy to test anymore).

I played both games in vanilla style (original game, no mods) for a while, but bored quickly. The mods make the game so much more fun. :D

Oh gawd be careful of that one! I played it for about a year or so and then I had to give it up. It can be a sick addiction.

I actually prefer a bunch of older games over all the first person shooters that look like each other. I wish I still had my old Panzer General II disk, that game was awesome. ;)

Yeah, I've noticed that although the newer games look real nice they don't have a lot of quality content. I rarely check out new games anymore becauase of time and the fact that a lot of them just stink!

I dunno, I really enjoyed the content of HL2, even though it was midly short. Took me ~24 hours worth of play time to beat it.

First person shooters all start to look the same to me after a while. It would be nice if the game designers could come up with something original. I think the games back in the mid-90s were much more creative. Now, everything is just run-around-killing-bad-guys.

Yeah - I could still do Wolfenstein-3D in my sleep. That was a great game.

Not that its REALLY strange because I can play Mario 64 in my sleep - I even beated the game 3 times :)

Some do, yeah, but do you group HL2 into that "blah" category?

I've only played Halo a little with my friends. Whats so different with Halo 2 because the first one was fun but nothing really special.

HL2 = Half-Life 2 ;)

Ahhh... duh! Yes I would love to play that game however I don't think I have the hardware for it. Did you play it with top-of-the-line components or were you able to scale back it's graphics enough (and still find it fun)?.

I have a P4 3.0 GHz, a gig of DDR 3200 and a 128 MB 9800 Pro with an XT BIOS and clock speeds.

I ran the game at 1024x768, max settings, and 4xAA/8xAF. HL2 is really good on computers (compared to games like Battlefield titles) and is really scalable. :D

My comp is pretty good, but BF:VN (Bought!) runs really slow on medium settings...

What videocard you have? GeForce?

As I said, I have a 128 MB 9800 Pro that's been modded. :)

Yes, but that's a GeForce RIGHT?

ATI Radeon I think. I have a 9600 Pro.

HL2 is a rare exception. You can only play so many Bond games and Counterstrikes and all those before you get bored out of your skull. ;)

Ruben

Counter-strike ok, but Bond? Bond games re VERY good (on consoles) to play multiplayer, and doesn't really makes you gt bored... :(

No, as Silmaril8n said, it's a Radeon series card made by ATI. ;)

I just love it when I start a game it says:

Runs great on: nVidia GeForce

Same here. Been using them for a few years now and gone through several of them. They've always been able to handle pretty decent games and offer good resolutions for the time period. Plus I like that they have a single driver for most of them too!

nVidia pays for that. They give the company making it support and cards to develop/test on.

The games that say that will run JUST fine on ATI cards. Hell, HL2 runs better on ATI cards than nVidia ones. Other way around though with Doom3.

I think Halo2 is pretty good. Not as good as Halo 1 of course. There are two reasons I think it's great:

Anybody can play it without being offended. You aren't some white guy schlepping halfway across the globe to shoot asian people or middle eastern folks. You are a half-man half-machine warrior fighting for humanity at large.

The second reason is the AI. I've never seen a console game, FPS or otherwise, with such great AI. The enemys don't run straight at you guns blazing. They hide behind cover, popping out for a quick shot. They duck when you toss grenades at them and they certainly do not get stuck facing a while, pumping round after round into it thinking that it is you.

Another interesting Halo fact: Anyone that had a 3DFX Voodoo 5 (the first consumer Gfx card with 64mb ram) can take a look at the box and see some very early screenshots of Halo back from before MS bought Bungie.

I think that your reasons are excellent. The first one is a problem with Ghost Recon 2, though I enjoy playing it. The AI also is good. I think the graphics are the best thing about it, though. There is a lot of detail, more so than in earlier-generation games.

Half-Life 2!! Oh, wait, you said console games. Nevermind. :)
