My site was hacked and my index page was replaced by a file that contained the text:
owned by w00pie.nl - w00pie / 00pz / sirh0t / gunes
I restored my previous index page, and already submitted a trouble ticket, but I'm wondering if anybody else has seen anything like this? And more importantly, what can be done to prevent it from hapenning in the future?

It was because I was running an old version of my message board software. Updated to the latest version and everything's been fine since.

This actually belongs in the "Individual and Resolved Account Issues" forum since it applies just to a single account. I'm moving it there now.
Hi I registered to this quite groovy website in search of advise realy. I am a cadet in the Air Training Corps, based in England that raises the younger generations and educates them in the arts of war, defence and aviation (if u realy wanted to know :P ) Anyways, we have a website (www.ecsmwing.org.uk) that is used for advise, important dates of forthcoming events of intrest, and other helpful things for cadets to learn from, however it has been hacked by some people calling themselves 'sirh0t', 'nico' and 'phpbb.' I noticed whilst browsing this site that their names also seemed to appear an a previous post and i was wondering if anyone knew anything about this troublesome trio or where someone else was simply informing others that these people have also wrecked their website. So if anyone san help then it would be much appreciated. I wont post my e-mail to stay safe, but if someone posts a repy or another thread on this matter then it would be much appreciated- that is if anyone can help in the matter in ANY way whatsoever. Thankyou and im sorry for the essay on this matter.
Eagerly awaiting a respose,
Ric

Were you using an outdated version of phpBB? The latest version is 2.0.18 and if you had a previous version, it's possible someone took advantage of a security flaw in php that some hackers found out about and exploited it through searching google for outdated phpBB forums. As long as you keep phpbb up-to-date, you should be fine. I do hope you have a backup of your database and files though so that you can fix this problem.
