Ok, Here's the predicament, I want to install Suse linux off a cd onto my old windows 98 comp. I have it on a boot CD (which works fine on our newer computer), but it wont load when you reboot it. Is there some simple thing i'm missing?

Do you have the boot order set correctly in BIOS so that the CDROM is set before the first HardDisk?

I highly doubt that i do.

Could you please explain how to do this?

Thanks,

It depends on the type of BIOS that you have installed on the system.

When it begins to bootup and says "Press [key] to enter setup," press the key (usually "Delete").

Then, poke around in there for the Boot Order. I'm not looking at a BIOS screen right now but it's usually in a general or standard configuration screen. You will want to be careful not to change anything else there as you could throw an system through quite a loop with a mistake. You can always exit without saving if you think you hit the wrong thing.

Ok, thanks a lot.
Now the computer boots from the cd drive first. However, when i try to install linux, it wants to patition the hard drive. Thats all good, but it gives me an error message, and aborts instalation. So, in other words, i need to know how to partition a hard drive with windows 98, does anyone know how?

Thanks,
