Well hello everyone on hostrocket forums it has been a long time, I have been really busy with work and getting ready to go to college. anyway I have a small problem (it could be a big problem)

One of my Fans that blows air out of the box has been acting up and spinning at strange RPMs and sounding like there is something caught in it. After inspection I could not find anything wrong but I started to worry about the health of my computer and its temperature.

I downloaded this handy program Motherboard Monitor which tells me what temperature the case, CPU, and sensor 3 is at (I don't know where sensor 3 is it might be on a fan...)

Anyway the temperatures as followed.

CPU: 122 F Case: 100 F Sensor 3: 32 F

Anyway this seems a little hot, I checked the Intel site and I guess this numbers look ok but they seem really high to me.

Does anyone have any suggestions or good ideas for lowering these temperatures? BTW these numbers were taken at 0% CPU use.

First off: sensor 3 has to be a malfunction of some sort unless you're running your computer in a freezer. As for the temperatures of the case and CPU, they should be rather close to each other during 0% use. Make sure your computer was idling long enough to claim it was 0% CPU usage.

Personally I run 98F cpu and 96F motherboard temperatures, when I only have a few apps running (AIM, IE, etc). During games however I believe the cpu temperature rockets to about what you have.

Did you just come out of playing a game when you took those temperatures?

(You don't have a sensor 3 and so it's defaulting to 0 C, i.e. 32 F)

Anyway, it all depends on your processor, case and fans. My P4 3.0 GHz w/ hyper threading idles around 86F and maxxes out around 110F when gaming and my case is always about 86 F. But then again, my case is aluminum and I have 5 case fans plus I replaces the fan/heatsink on my graphics card with one that blows the hot air out of PCI slots.

Hey viper, i got a p4 3.2 hyper threaded and mine seems a little hot. i am not even playing any games right now and my box is at 100 F and cpu 116 F, i have 5 case fans, 3 blowing air out, and 2 bringing air in.

should i add more fans somehow? I am moving to college on the 17th and during the summer it gets way hotter then where i am at right now, i am scared it will melt my system :( .
