I was told by hostrocket customer support that if I wanted to get better control over setting up MySQL databases I should use Shell Access.

Searching for Shell Access on the internet only returns a million results!

Is there anyone who could point me in the right direction to download the necessary software or guide me through the hr control panel??

Thanks a ton in advance!

It's in the FAQ page. Ask HR to enable ssh for your account, then read this (http://support.hostrocket.com/index.php?page=index_v2&id=17&c=9).

HR recommends using PuTTY (http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/putty/) for SSH.

The HR FAQ (http://support.hostrocket.com/index.php?page=index_v2&id=16&c=9) has the details on how to get SSH access for your account.

There are also a couple of other SSH FAQs you might want to look at.

In general SSH access to your account allows using Linux commands and running MySQL from the command line.

If SSH is not enabled on your account it is not possible for an un authorized person to gain access to your site in that manner.

Thanks so much for your help. I'm embarrased that's it's in the FAQ... It was such a general question that it was hard to spot right under my nose - thanks again!!! :)
