For all of you in the forums here that seem to adore host rocket...have a look at this email i just sent off, it describes my experience so far, and I just signed up yesterday.

Sir:

Signing up with hostrocket.com to host my site has been one of the most painful decisions I have ever made. First, you placed your setup fee on the side panel along with optional features. Hidden towards the bottom of the list. That's simply bad business. It's despicable enough, that I wasn't going to stand for it, so I called and cancelled my account. I was especially angry, because the account I use to pay for webhosting, and technical expenses had a little over $40.00 in it, and I only thought I was charging $14.95 + $20.00 domain registration. However, I was charged $46.90 because of the hidden setup fee. That brought my account into the negative. Each time that account goes negative, I am charged $30.00.

Well, after cancelling the account, I noticed that the $20.00 for registering the domain had not gone through, so I went about my business and started looking for another host, when I realized that my domain was now registered to Hostrocket.com. I called and was told that I was going to have to pay $20.00 to get my domain from your company. This is unethical, and I'm sure that once I finish investigating, HIGHLY ILLEGAL. To charge me for a name that I created, that you registered under your name....nope, not gonna fly with me. BUT WAIT!! It gets much worse.

I check my checking account, and what do I see, Hostrocket.com did not refund my $46.90, but they charged me $46.90 again, and another time. I had deposited $50.00 earlier in the day, so before cancelling the account I had a little over $11.00, because the original transaction with hostrocket brought my account negative, and I was charged $30.00. Then I was charged the $20.00 domain registration fee. So my account is currently sitting at a WHOPPING NEGATIVE $102.55. But it's going to be much worse tomorrow when all of the overdraft fee's hit my account. $30.00 for each transaction that Your company falsely placed on my account.

So I called, I was told at first that you had not charged my account, only refunded me. I told them to look again, and after a while they found the charges. I was told that I would have to wait until tomorrow. I said that wasn't acceptable, and was put on the phone with Justin. Justin started taking care of business. He said he is refunding all of the money, and if I missed anything to call or email him and he'll take care of it. He even offered to get me my account without having to pay for the domain registration, and not having to pay anything until the next billing date in March.

I thought that this was a good gesture, to refund all the crap that had gone through on my account, and give me the first month free, no setup fee, and no registration fee for the domain. I thought this would work. Especially since I wanted to get my site up by Friday 2/6.

HOW WRONG I WAS! I would have been better off trying to use telepathy to get my website across the minds of readers. Hostrocket Cancelled my account @ midnite while I was working away on the site. How screwed up is this company? How does one customer get the shaft so much in so little time. How do you even have customers? Or is this what ya'll do to people who want to cancel?

p.s. I also enjoy how I signed up for a dedicated IP without actually selecting it. I like how if you don't scroll down, you get screwed over again.

Thanks.

Sorry to hear about your troubles. I assure you, as a customer of nearly 3 years, your experiences are the exception and not the norm. It seems like you've been the victim of bad luck by having more go wrong in one day than I have with two accounts for nearly 36 months!

Although I do feel that their setup fee needs to be more clearly presented, I've found my experience with support to be top-notch.

But that's just my $0.02

Hi,

On the behalf of HostRocket, I must say that I am truely sorry to hear of the trouble that you've had with our service.

I can assure you that this is typical of neither our service, nor our support and would like to apologize for the inconvenience that this has caused for you. After speaking with Justin, I believe he handled the situation very well in trying to turn a bunch of wrongs into a right and I hope that you feel the same.

After reviewing your situation, it is clear that some changes need to be made in some of our support methods and will be using this situation as a good example of what needs to be worked on. We are constantly striving to provide the best support and service we can and do everything we can to take any negatives that might come up and turn them into positives.

As always, I am open to any comments, questions or concerns from anyone regarding our services and I can be reached at melissa@hostrocket.com.

Melissa

UPDATE: I'm waiting for the rest of the charges to clear my account, it's currently sitting at Negative $64 something. And much to my dismay, I upload my site and look at my domain, and theres an ip conflict, so someone elses site is coming up when my domain is typed in. I'm told that someone else has the same IP as me. Isn't that Great! I got a dedicated IP and it isn't even mine. So i'm on the phone and they are changing my IP. So i get to go back into my site setup and change all my info again. THANKS HOSTROCKET!! I think it should be HOSEROCKET right now. I'm laughing on the outside, but screaming, crying and plotting on the inside. Will the SCREWUPS EVER STOP?

Maybe you just need to be contacting support instead of b*****ng here. There's nothing we can do.

I really don't beleive that your situation is typical at all. Unfortunate, but certainly not typical. That is what I get from reading all the posts while I have been with HR.
