Well for those who haven't heard yet, Microsoft has released Windows XP 64 for Athlon 64/Opteron processors. If you have one of these processors go here to get the first beta (there should be 1 or 2 more before the official release later this year).

Maybe I've missed someting along the way but why doesn't this OS work on the 64-bit Intel chips? Will MS have to make another OS for those?

That's pretty cool, though. Now only if I had a spare 64-bit PC laying around...

I've downloaded it.... i'm not impressed.... I had alot problems with drivers, especially my onboard gigabit ethernet. I've also noticed a lack of Direct X on it... funny. It runs some commercial apps, some it kinda gets funny with. Adobe i could see a slight difference, not much, it's a 32bit app program. LightWave 7.5 froze my box. Go Figure... :p .

As for me, i'll stick with Suse 9.0 pro 64Bit edition. Just works better, out longer, and way more support.

If your going to install it windows beta 64 then try to stay away from SATA, i know... took me an hour because it hated my promise drivers i had on OEM disk

They've already had it's unstable beta out for a while, HP has a hold on that junk market.
