View Full Version : No-right click script

Why do people use it? It really annoys me because I often "right-click -> Open in new window". I know it's faster to do "Shift + click" to open a site in a new window, but it's an old habit, and I generally always right-click.

Also, when I'm using my tablet, it's much faster to right-click than shift-click.
So, anway, back to the scripts. Why do people use them? I know they won't protect anything, but do you think they are a good idea just because they give a 'warning', or do you think they a waste of time?

Because people think they're being all tricky, trying to protect their wonderful pictures and all, even though they're not.

It's just another example of the unknowledgeable being obsessed with security, although they know nothing about it, and refuse to take advice.

Well, it's funny because it does nothing at all for security. It's sort of one of my pet peeves. Some people know it does nothing, yet put it there anyway, just so if someone right-clicks, they will get a warning and think, "oh, this person really cares about this stuff getting stolen, so I won't bug it"... they just set it up so it seems like they care about security.
Then there are those that actually think it stops anyone from stealing stuff.

Van-- how did you manage to post twice in the same minute?? Ah-ah!! So the posting time thing doesn't apply to you, huh?? THAT'S how you got so many posts. Now I know your secret. :)

You got it! I actually only have 550-some posts, but I double post each one. I'm just hoping HR doesn't catch on :)

Really though, I'm not sure how that's possible, with the time limit. I think I had a little DSL hiccup, because I didn't hit submit twice. Weird. Well, it's gone now.

This is one of the most annoying scripts ever. I right click links alot too and it always bugs me. Especially on pages where there aren't even pictures, just text and navigation menus (like I really want to steal your site buttons)

If you really want to do security for your images, having a watermark or having it so when they save the image they get a different picture than the one they are looking at are much more effective anyway.

That would be a neat thing to do-- if someone steals the image, have it change when they save it. How do you do that?

As for watermarks... someone could just do a screen shot, right? I suppose they could do it for the image changing option too.

No, I don't think there's any way to stop against screen shotting.

I can only think of one way... writing a big 'ole "COPYRIGHT ME" across all of your graphics :-)

There must be a script that creates a popup when you press "Print Scr" thought, right? Couldn't you do it with javascript or something like that, so if they press that they get a warning?
That would be really cool.

How about Flash? Just flip the pictures really fast.

Seriously though, I don't think screenshots can be prevented against. At least with flash you can't nab them off the page.

I take some surveys where right-click is disabled. They want you to type in "I Agree" instead of just copying it. It's an annoyance, but I guess it helps them make some kind of point. As for images, you can always get them if you want them, but the casual browser might be dissuaded by that.

I always do ctrl C when nothing else works. It's awesome. So, once again... the no-right click script is completely useless :-)

At least, until the RIAA declares domain over them and locks you down, then forces you to pay $0.99 for each picture :D

Nooo.... I do "ctrl + c" to copy & paste text if the site is acting funky and right-click doesn't work. Not for pictures...

On the RIAA, Do they really have any power at all? I know that they have sued a few people, but I havent heard of anything becoming of it. I don't know anyone at all that has actually been sued, and I know a lot of people that download mp3s.

Im not going to say how much I personally download, but it is a lot.

Are they going after people who did this legally, or just the people that illegally downloaded music? If they did it illegally, then I guess they should get in trouble.

Those javascript right click thingies are indeed annoying. Makes me eager to break the site apart and use all their material heh
