Played with my router and everything - no go. Damn my stupid modem and it blocking all incoming connections. :(

Damn dude, that sucks! Does it just do that by default and you have no control over it? There's gotta be some way around it.

It's the modem - it has no configuration abilites. I'd have to short a jumper and flash on a different software onto it via DOS.

Just for the record steam isn't exactly the best software. Your problems could be due to the buggy software. I know some days I can't logon, but usually I can. The friends network is also down A LOT which has nothing to do with anyone's router, just Valve's poorly programed/planed software.

Yeah, the problem must be caused by that Steam needs the server to connect to my PC and not for me to initiate the connection or something as I can play on game servers just fine as I connect to them.
