Well - I got it..

I now basically hold a pen in my hands that is infinite.

Now what?

(yeah, infinite ink, never runs out)

.. now what :(

metawu

Shouldn't you get a patent on it or something?
Don't want anyone to steal your idea now...

It might cost a lot though, and the process could be long. That's what I heard anyway...

fac3less
01-23-2004, 02:41 PM
yeah - thats what i've heard/read.

I mean its worth it.. I also have 2 more inventions.. ;) can't mention them though or it gives them away

KLH

How does the ink never run out?

fac3less
01-23-2004, 04:54 PM
.. yeah. ;)

let me tell you that.

no thanks. :)

its a secret.

Sheesh, the black helicopters from Bic will be tracking you down if you try to market something like that!

We get calls/emails from inventors all the time that want us to make their shoes. For free. And most of the time their ideas won't work anyway, but then they get all mad because heck, they've convinced themselves it will work.

fac3less
01-23-2004, 06:42 PM
this works.. ;) trust me

but ugh.. yeah i've thought about bic.. but they're so cheap.

so I went to 'cross' instead (+ it was the company I was building the prototype with)

metawu
01-23-2004, 06:51 PM
+ it was the company I was building the prototype with

So you actually went to their labs/machine shops to build it?
Or did you give them the plans/tech drawings and got them to build it for you?

vanselus
01-23-2004, 06:56 PM
You better protect yourself - Cross just might decide it was their idea in the first place. Very VERY easy for companies to steal ideas and claim they had the idea at the same time.

fac3less
01-23-2004, 06:58 PM
Hell no!

built it myself at home - inside their pen :b

I can take it out of theirs just as easy.. nothing special about it. the thing fits in any pen that takes that type of ink cartridge.

How long have you tested this "basically infinite ink"?

It's pretty hard to imagine how you'd do that, since the very nature of writing requires something physical to be left on the paper, unless you came up with a way to impart a chemical/physical change over the paper without leaving any substance behind...

I suppose heat would work - like woodburning :D

metawu
01-23-2004, 07:13 PM
Oh so that's what you meant. I thought you and cross collaborated on the project to build the prototype lol.

Duh - it's an infinetly large pen with an infinite amount of ink. It will last for infinetly long. ;)

And let me guess.... it's shaped like an 8

KLH
01-24-2004, 02:18 AM
I can see it now, in 50 years, I will be sitting down opening up christmas presents from my grandkids, and they get me this pen, that never runs out of ink.. And I sit them down and tell them a story that goes kinda like this

"I could have sworn that I once knew a guy who said he invented this. Maybe it was just a dream, who knows, oh well, thanks for the pen, I will never need a new one again..."

fac3less
01-24-2004, 02:21 AM
nope its in a regular shaped pen, regular size everything. In fact its smaller than most. :)

We'll see how things go. Its really simple.

vanselus
01-24-2004, 02:22 AM
i was JOKING about the 8. get it? infinity?

simple is good - can't wait to hear about it.

fac3less
01-24-2004, 02:25 AM
Me neither.

my next one is the best though.. I gotta copyright that one before I mention it though.. as it.. well.. even mentioning it and which company its getting submitted to (*after copyright*) gives it away

vanselus
01-24-2004, 02:28 AM
yeah you've said that twice now. quit making us wonder.

fac3less
01-24-2004, 02:51 AM
just know it kicks major b00ty. :) lol

I'd tell ya van but its definately worth a few mil.. ;)

Well, in answer to the "Now what?" question, the first step is to hire a patent attorney to do a patent search. You can't just waltz in and plunk down your new wonder thing at the patent office and say, "do me up right big boy." You need to show you have had a search performed for any similar patents. You might find that Joe Snozzleface in 1938 had exactly the same idea (but was bought out mysteriously and the thing never saw the light of day again), in which case trying to get a patent is pointless.

So, two words: patent attorney.

It must not be a convential style writing device...

Vladdrac
01-25-2004, 02:30 AM
can the pen write upside down/or in space?

Viper007Bond
01-25-2004, 07:25 AM
They already have pens that do that Vladdrac. ;)

I think he was asking if this pen could do that ALSO.

Never runs out of ink + writes upside down/in outer space

Not just one or the other.

:)

Viper007Bond
01-25-2004, 05:05 PM
Oh. :-/

Vladdrac
01-25-2004, 06:34 PM
yeah if it did both it would have some real good selling points, not that a pen that never runs out of ink isnt enough. But hell, id love to buy one. I wonder how much they would go for on the market.

fac3less
01-26-2004, 02:56 AM
Really not sure how much they would sell for..

but remind me if they ever make it to the market and i'll give you one for free.

;)

btw- anyone notice the hr site going MASSIVELY slow?

Viper007Bond
01-26-2004, 03:11 AM
I want a free one too! :p

And yes, it's going a little slow, although not nearly as slow as last night/early this morning. It was REALLY bad then.

Vladdrac
01-26-2004, 01:18 PM
yeah i was wondering that too, it started going slow while i was uploading

Viper007Bond
01-26-2004, 01:23 PM
Uploading? To the forum? o.O

I was talking about the forum server, not the webhost servers...

Vladdrac
01-26-2004, 01:28 PM
oops sorry, i am half brain dead. Actually it must be my isp cause it is happening again.

Viper007Bond

Yeah, the forum's running fine for me right now...

KLH

I can't really tell at home, since I am on dialup, but when I'm connected to the schools connection (even though it does suck) these boards always seem to go slower then most websites..

fac3less
01-26-2004, 06:32 PM
lol..

well this morning at 1am->2am it was brutal.. like 8minute load times.. was crazy.. everything else was fine.

That helps cut down on posts.. Takes 8 minutes to load = 8 less posts..

Maybe they should do that more often? I am use to the pages being slow..

Tammy

Being able to tell when the server is running relatively slow is a BIG sign you guys are spending too much time on here!

Sleep.... I forgot how to do that. :P

Viper007Bond
01-27-2004, 02:54 PM
Pfft, sleeping is for people who sleep and you don't want to be one of those people, do you?

Vladdrac
01-27-2004, 03:11 PM
quoting my gf, "I'll sleep when im dead"

speaking of which, isnt this thread?

vanselus
01-27-2004, 03:16 PM
dead? yep. but that was 2 pages ago, so who's counting.

Viper007Bond
01-27-2004, 03:31 PM
Your post count is.

(You just broke 900 by the way)

vanselus

Hey you're right!! Cool :D

You are certainly catching up fast however...

Viper007Bond
01-27-2004, 03:43 PM
I have nothing else to do...

So what was your post count pre-contest by the way?

vanselus
01-27-2004, 03:45 PM
