If I were to setup a Counter Strike server, who here would play? I know a lot of people here play or used to play. For those people who don't own it, you can usually buy it pretty cheap at Wal-Mart.

I would play, but it wouldn't be much fun for you. Unless you enjoy spawning over and over.

I will play depending on the status of my own 'clan's' server. We're currently having a lot of trouble with bandwidth :( So if that problem remains i'll be playing whenever I have the time :)

Maybe - just 'cause you guys would be on it, but most likely not. Battlefield 1942 is another matter - I'd be there in a heart beat. But then again, BF takes your server out back and beats it with a bandwidth and CPU whoring stick...

VENCO

Yeah, but they got plenty of bandwidth. How about hosting my clan's public CS server HR? :p

We're trying to find a game that a lot of people would play. I tried Call of Duty but it requires a hefty system to play. BF1942 is the same way.

I would, counter-strike is awesome, Will you install the common mods: admin mod, amx mod, and others?

I would try it. I like playing my games online, well, as long as the other people aren't THAT much better than me!

And on the flip side, I would play - but it wouldn't be much fun for you. Unless you enjoy shooting ducks.

Now if you could figure out how to host some Xbox games without our having to pay Bill Gates for the privilege of playing them online, I could guarantee you a lot of hits.....

That's simple. Trash your Xbox and get a PS2. If Microsoft isn't paying for your internet access i'm not sure what you are paying for when you signup for Xbox live.

i got xbox and live, but once it is up i'm not paying for it again, it was pointless now. But anyway...graham will do you think you will have a server up because i'm ready to play when you are!

Or take a basebat to all consoles and just stick to PC...

The only thing consoles are good for is when you have a bunch of friends over from out of town (who can't bring their own computer) and you want to play together.

Well by paying for Xbox live, you give Msoft a reason to keep everything working right, i remember Dreamcast, and how you could play some games online for free, but the service was always bad, and servers were down.

I agree with you there. I gave away my PS2 because I never played it anymore. I can usually always find a game for PC that keeps me occupied. I tried on-line play for PS2 and I thought it was great. All you need is the network adaptor and a broadband connection. I played SOCOM, Midnight Club 2 and Tony Hawk. They worked great.

I'm working on getting the CS server setup on my box. I'll let everyone know when it's setup. For now, anyone who wants to download the steam files can get them from me:

Your doing a steam server? Or, the original counter-strike?

HRGraham
01-25-2004, 01:54 PM
I'll probably do a Steam one unless I can't get the server software to work in FreeBSD.

I found the orginal, (not for steam just counter-strike 1.5) Much easier to set up....

Viper007Bond
01-25-2004, 04:53 PM
Yeah, but not many people run 1.5 anymore.

I actually don't play much xbox, but I recently set my little friend up with a two-month free trial xbox live and he seems to enjoy the heck out of it! And I enjoy it because it keeps him quiet and locked up in his room! So there's an audience for it.

There is definitely an audience for it but you can play PS2 games on-line without having to pay for a subscription. I just don't see why you should have to pay for something like this when you are already paying for your internet connection. There aren't many multiplayer PC games that make you pay a monthly fee.

By the way everyone, I'm very close to having the CS server setup. I'll post when its done.

CS 1.6 Steam Server is setup. If you don't have the steam files, you may download them here (http://myownbox.com/~graham/hlfiles/). You should be connecting to IP address 216.120.255.128. The port is the default one(27015).
