View Full Version : Few q's - Voice transfer over Net

I have a few q's. A few nerds around here should have a few ideas how to set this up the right way.
Basically - what we're doing is moving our 'studio' to canada and we have to have one of our broadcaster/dj's voice sent to the station.
We like to do everything 'live' or as Live as possible. We don't want to pre-record too many of the shows (none at all in fact)
How should we do this - since there will be a 1000 mile split between one of the shows announcers and the other.
Any VoIP programs that would work? Then I could use a soundcard on one system to 'record' anything pumped out by the speakers (digital of course) and then that would be streamed (thats easy to setup, but any apps you know of that'll work? whether its 'digital' internet phone and whatnot..)
Anyways - Post! :)
Thankies
God bless you!
Cisco has a HUGE department on VoIP deptartment.
I went to one of their seminars this fall which was mostly about VoIP. No matter what you want, they have it. Including some really neat walkie-talkie's that use the 802.11 network and VoIP. They have so much crap, but it is all VERY expensive.

Yeah, they have stuff like that at my dad's work for talking to the big guys in Germany - VERY expensive hardware + like 4 IDSN lines, etc, etc.

Just buy two webcams - they'll come with software for this.

I didn't say use the webcams. :p
You could use a NSV stream, but it'd be a stream and therefore not really live.
You could use something like MSN or Yahoo! to have a "conversation" and then record what's incoming...
Or even TeamSpeak or Ventrilo.

Well think of it this way.. (pretty simple explanation)
we got 2 people. 3 systems.
DJ system 1, in toronto, person1 controls this
Server, in Toronto, remote
PC- Florida - person2 controls this
we got sam2 streaming our music to server -> then out to listeners
we need to get person2's voice and person1's voice together and then into dj system -> server-> listeners. :)
phone might work.. but anyone have any ideas otherwise?

Hm.. reading about ventrilo and it might actually work. The good thing about sam2 is you have two choices of where to stream 'sound' from.. you can use soundcard or digital only.. soundcard basically records anything thats coming out and in to the soundcard - and streams that to the server.
Back to reading about ventrilo. :)

I prefer TeamSpeak personally from looking at it (but then again, I was looking at it from a gamer's perspective).
All I'm saying is try both before you choose. ;)

And if you need a server to connect to...
