hey im a newbie, and i was wondering if anyone knows how this is set up;

lets say i login in to ftp.domain.com

and enter my user/pass

and all that i see in the browser window is...

files on the server.

and i would be able to just drag and drop files from my desktop to the window
and vice versa.

i have seen this before. but cant find a prime example

any tips? programs? code?

i need ASAP plz

best way to do it is to use a program like 'filezilla'

but yeah - you can connect to ftp via your browser.. if thats what you're asking

Just type in the adress bar ftp://ftp.domain.com And replace domain.com with your domain, then your all set, if you have a dedicated ip you'll need to right click and do login as and login...

A nice more or less simple program to use is SmartFTP, I like that one a lot.

However, as they said if you want you can use Internet Explorer to browse an FTP site.

Why anyone would want to use IE as an FTP client is beyond me...

I use FlashFxp or WSFTP. WSFTP is pretty simple for beginners and not hard to set up. I havent ever tried Filezilla but i'd look at it just for fun.

I use WS_FTP Pro only 'cause I'm too lazy to find something else and re-add all my FTP accounts.

Because if you are not at your computer it works great.

For example, in a computer lab.

Working on a client's computer, etc.

I'm not going to install software on someone else's computer.

So I use IE just so I can get what I need and be done with it.

IE works just fine if all you need is quick access.

That's the thing - there's nothing quick about IE when it comes to FTP. 1/2 the time it goes unresponsive while it's waiting for a return ping or whatnot.

I've never had that many problems with IE and ftping.

Uhm, that works with netscape, too, last I remember.

Ditto, it takes longer as it does some stupid "calculating time to transfer files" shit, which often takes longer than the actual file transfer. But it works well in a pinch.

Hmm, IE always goes unresponsive for a bit when connecting and stuff for me. Odd... Oh well, it doesn't matter. ;)
