Which of these linux distros do you prefer? I'm moving in a few weeks and I'm only going to keep one Win2k box for testing purposes... other than that I'm done with Microsoft.
Post others if you like... I just picked a few big ones that I've used myself.
I used to use RedHat but thats not really an option anymore.

I'm very interested in people comments about this as well. I find myself in the opposite situation. I typically run all MS boxes except for one Linux box. And with Red Hat going bye bye for personal users, I need to know what the best options are. Unfortunately I don't follow the various distro flamewars enough to know where to start when it comes time to transition. Which will be soon.

Redhat is what I prefered, but if I had to choose now I would choose my Mac it's the best of both worlds (Mac & Unix).

I hear you there. The best thing about the Mac is that it's really linux. Now if we can just get Microsoft to make the same switch right?
But for me this isn't an option. I need the Linux box to have a test development environment. So I'm better off with just one world.

This is exactly my situation right now too... but like I said, after I move MS is going out the door.

You might want to give Fedora a shot(fedora.redhat.com).

Fedora looks really cool. I think I may have to give it a shot. Has anyone had any trouble using multiple Linux distributions on a network together? It may also be fun to just load 5 or 6 computers with different ones and work that way.

Well actually the Macs don't use Linux... I'm rather sure it's Free BSD / unix.
As for Linux I used RedHat.

I use Red Hat too but not much anymore because my old machine is too slow to make it worth using. Hate to see Red Hat go. Great OS.
If I ever have to switch I'll give Fedora a chance.

I'm running Fedora on one of my Box's now, and I enjoy it. Plus the nVidia Drivers are a snap to install and actually bring some Fun to linux at times (TuxRacer :p ) Gentoo is another good nix'r. Although toted as a little ruff around the edges, i think it's a perfect operating system to beat on and test. I'm not really a mac man, but I know some people that live and die by BSD and it's little one Panther OSX yada yada yada. With all playing the OpenOffice game now adays, I'm on the Look out for Linux to make a small niche in the Desktop world (see IBM:cool: )

When i seriously wanted to try out a linux distro i got talked into using FreeBSD. So i have FreeBSD today running at home and im pretty happy with it. Still need to read the manual tho since i only know 10% of the OS i guess heh. Just dont have the time nor motivation when i come home after work

Personally I'm going to also go with Fedora.. or finally take some of your guys' input and attempt at jumping into freeBSD.
Until then.. i'm in idiotsville down here while in florida (family uses system, they can't learn linux so windows it is for now..)

Another vote for fedora. Friend uses it with no problems.

I'm an OS-Geek...I love Slackware. Solaris isn't bad either if they ever get around to releasing their x86 version for 20 dollars or whatever they're toying with I might try that.
FreeBSD is cool but I don't like the way it's organized. Probably just because SysV is the style I lost my *nix virginity on.
