Just a random wondering who has beat any of the Myst games without help or cheats?
Currently I'm going back to the old game to try to beat it cause it is one game that is really hard and has kind of fell though the cracks on my to play list.

I beat the first one a long time ago and got pretty far on Riven. I'm actually wondering if the new Myst game is any good(I think its called Uru).

NO no no Graham, he said MYST, not Candyland. Games your mom let you win don't count.

I beat the first myst about 2 years ago. I had originally played it about 6-7 years ago, but didn't spend enough time to solve some of the puzzles.
I never played riven, but I did recently pick up Uru but have yet to play it as I am away from my desktop for about a month and Uru doesn't work with my laptops onboard intel video.

Well I tried the first Myst, I got to this area with a numerical combination lock and well.. that was the end of that :)
this game is amazing, i remember the 1st time i played it. i bet i woiuldnt be able to play it now, the whole press forward and jump 10 feet ahead thing doesnt appeal to me really. haha. all those graphics can be rendered in real time now

I went back and grabbed my copy of Myst last night - I had no idea it looked so bad! Of course, it was amazing at the time... I remember thinking "wow, this is almost REAL!"
and now it's worse than Transformers...
(ok maybe not)
wow is it really that bad? i know it doesnt move in real time, but i always though it was "amazing pre-rendered backgrounds" i really gotta play this gem again

Riven was really annoying because it was like 100 discs and whenever you went certain places you had to take out disc, insert new one, wait.....wait longer.....wait a few more seconds and then you were finally playing. Little things like that irritate me(like the loading screens in ps2 grand theft auto).

We had a guy in college in our dorm that bought a $4500 Gateway computer when the 19" screen was the big thing. He hooked it up to his stereo and played Riven ALL THE DAMN TIME with the subwoofer blaring. It always sounded like an earthquake was coming around the corner.
Now THAT is annoying.

Never did beat it back in the day. I should go dig up the CD(s) and install it (wonder if it works on XP).

I can't speak for the CDs but the DVDs of the games still look good and work with XP and I don't think they updated except I think I got the remastered version of Myst the orginal.

Nah, I have the very first release of it from back in the early 1990's and when I played it on a 486. ;)

I have URU: some puzzles are overly simplistic, but some are incredibly hard. One of the toughest things about the game is the camera angles.. near the very beginning of the game, there is a puzzle in a 'cleft' and the end result is you are able to generate a holographic recording.. I have to keep moving my stupid character around to even see it!

That is why I like FPS games better. You never have a problem with camera angles. There are times in Prince of Persia where the camera angles make me want to pull my hair out.

Once you get used to controlling the camera in Prince of Persia it wasn't a real problem.

Ya it was a hard game, I never beat it either. THey made it too long and too boring to keep playing it.
