If we would launch a brand new affiliate program managed entirely by us and not in association with Commission Junction in the very near future, would you be more inclined to participate? If so, why?

I would for three reason:
1. I don't mind putting up your link as it is with no Affiliate thing
2. CJ seems kind of intimidating I don't know why but I guess with there contracts and stuff you have to agree to?
3. Cutting out the middle man is always cool you can do so many different things with it like instead of money hosting credit and I would be more willing cause I know I can trust HostRocket and it is direct with no one else coming in.

I would absolutely participate. I no longer work with CJ because they now make you pay money if you do not make any sales in their program.

That'd be great!! I've just heard too many bad things about CJ to ever really consider getting involved.

I would do it. Too much of a hassle the way it is now. Tammy
I would, but then again, I already do.
But I would delete my account with CJ, because I do not like them. I only am signed up with them because there might be that possiblity that I might get someone to signup for something, and be able to make some money. Plus I really don't trust them that well in seeing if I really do make a sell or not. And last, some people have banner blockers, which block out the ads from them (if it is a banner).

I refer a lot of people to HR (via the affiliate program).
Yes, I would be willing to switch... if the payout doesn't go down ;-)
Right now I get $41/referal. If you did an independant affiliate program, what would the payout be?
I like how the commission gets transfered to my account every month on time & how I can track it and see how many clicks, sales, etc. my site generates.

The payout would be the same or better and similar access to statistics would be provided.

Hey.... I like that "better" part!!

I wanted to sign up a while back, but didn't because it was through commision junction. I would definitely be more inclined to do it if it was through hostrocket :)

Hey.... if you did your own affiliate program, would you maybe have a setup where people could claim their commissions in cash AND HR services?
Like where, if I referred 2 people to you, I could choose get cash for one and a free domain pointer for the other? :-)
Oh, cool-- this is my 75th post! Whoooo!

I'd have to take a closer look once the details were finalized, but I'd probably go for it. Free money is free money. I looked into CJ a while back but found some negative comments and got scared off.

What scared you about CJ? I use them & haven't had a problem...

Definetly. Dunno why, but I've been hesitant with signing up with CJ. I'd be more than happy if HR had their own.
Now if I didn't get any referrals for a certain amount, would I be charged money or anything or are accounts free?

how does this program work? if someone signs up saying that you sent them, you get money?
i'm dont know about cj, but it sounds like its a bit iffy! i would definatley if there was no pressure.

also, being able to be paid via paypal would be good.

Well, with the CJ program, a script automatically tracks the people that click on your link (they provide you with links when you sign up).
If someone signs up with hostrocket after being referred by you, then they will credit you for that. Once a month they pay you want you've earned.
If HR goes on their own, the might do something different... I don't know.

A new program would work that way as well.

That isn't likely because we do not and have no plans to use PayPal in the future.

I wouldn't want you to use paypal for this anyway... paypal takes a small percentage whenever you get paid :(
I think it would be best if HR handled the whole thing.
Oh, two things I don't like about some affiliate programs:
1) - being charged if you don't refer enough people (what CJ is gonna do)
2)- Very high 'minimum payout' limits-- I think with CJ, they pay you when you have made at least $25. Which isn't a problem for me now because each HR referal is more than that. With another program I'm in, minimum pay is $100!
I don't like the idea of these limits where you only get paid if you make a certain amount.

I wanted to sign up back in Jun 03 but didn't because commission junction policies were too oppressive and costly for those who did not bring in high volume referrals. My customers are not looking for anyplace to host a web site so any referrals I'd generate would be from surfers coming to my sites looking for information.

I would definately go for it. (it would also depend on how it works)

YES. Definitely would be interested.
I used to be set up as a Hostrocket affiliate at CJ, and made just a few commissions. Then some time last year I got a message from them asking for some kind of IRS form or documentation -- can't remember what is was -- and I ignored it. (Anyone else get that message?) Now my membership is terminated. Visited their site for the first time in a long time, now it looks like their focus has changed completely. Not so interested anymore...
Hope you implement your program soon!

Yeah, I got that. It's just sending in your SSN or what-have-you for tax law purposes. It really doesn't mean much unless you're raking in big bucks from this thing, in which case the tax man shall comeith

No problem with the tax man 'cometh'ng'.
But I do have a problem sending my SSN to any company that asks for it - no matter what purpose.
A week after I give it up I'll hear of their database being hacked and some kids spreading around SSN numbers like crazy.
Actually, scratch that! I need to buy an SSN! :)
laugh. I don't like their '10 bucks a month' thing though - thats retarded.

10 bucks a month? What's that now?
fac3less

cj now has something where it charges people who don't make so much a month in affiliate things - 10 bucks a month..
drove me away.

o.O
And how much is not enough?
fac3less
01-15-2004, 03:29 AM
Don't remember, it was a large amount though - and I definately wasn't going to make it every month with my puny new startup site. :)
Sure we get 30 uniques a day! (used to get 1000 uniques a day when it was political activism site.. mutter)..
but that wouldn't pay the bills. :)
aerojad
01-15-2004, 03:31 AM
30 uniques... so what does it want? x-number of clicks per day, or x-number of impressions per day?
fac3less
01-15-2004, 03:32 AM
o pfft. We get 30 thousand impressions a day but thats people refreshing. :)

They want a certain volume in affiliate sales commissions. I think maybe $100 per month.
It's not the kind of service it used to be...

And that's why I never signed up with them...
I so want a HR program. :)
They asked for mine, but I never sent it to them. My account with them is still active with them, but I have never earned any commision from them (yet).
I still vote for HR to make their own.
