Just wondering what are the requirements to setup a sub domain from the control panel? Add sub domain, create new ftp, .....? Need some help on clarification on how to set it up properly.
Will the sub domain have an automatic index page? Cheers

Just go and add a subdomain. This creates a folder under public_html that is treated as the subdomain's main page. So if you are starting subdomain.site.com, you would place your files under public_html/subdomain.

To add to what vormav says, you can add an FTP account with the same name, and a password of your choosing, and one person will then have FTP access to that folder. This is the only way HR allows people to make FTP accounts. You cannot make custom named accounts and give them access anywhere, although I wish we could have that ability.

So, how many people can access an ftp that you setup? Not the anon ftp account, but a private one. I.e. i set one up for a couple of my friends. Can I have it so that a limit of 3 may connect? Or is it ONE and ONLY ONE?
Thank you,
-Steve

One and only one account per folder. And only one person can be connected at a time or errors will occur because the same account cannot be logged in twice.

Hi. First of all when accessing your subdomain make sure
that you don't inadvertantly add a www. prefix
(use http://subdomain.esprit-automotiv.com and not http://www.subdomain.esprit-automotiv.com).
Check and see if a folder for the subdomain was created in your public_html directory.
Example: If you created a subdomain named "racing" you should expect to find a new subdirectory in your public_html folder named "racing" and if you upload an index.html page to the racing folder it should be accessable via the following URL:
http://racing.esprit-automotiv.com
If after confirming that you are using the correct URL you find that your subdomains aren't working I'd suggest submitting a trouble ticket and have HR support take a look at the problem.

Hey Don,
Thanks, finally figure out how it works. I got the new folder working before with the index page ie. www.website.com/newfolder but never thought of omitting the www's. Cheers.

You're welcome, happy that helped!

Yeah, old habits die hard and although it's often unnecessary many of us still tend to add the www. onto domain names automatically without even thinking about it. With domains HR has it setup so that either http://domain.com or http://www.domain.com will work however that's not the case with subdomains.

Yeah, its an old habit and I am glad I got it working.
If you don't mind, I got another question.
Say, have you got any clues on how osCommerce works? I am trying to put a cart on my site.
Instead of the cart supplied by HR, the folks here recommended me osCommerce.

"Say, have you got any clues on how osCommerce works? I am trying to put a cart on my site."
Well I don't have any firsthand experience with osCommerce however you may find the Installing osCommerce tutorial here (http://www.fortweb.com/linux_tutorials/installing_oscommerce.html) to be of some use starting out.
If you hit any snags installing besides posting more general questions here you may have better luck posting osCommerce specific questions at the osCommerce forums (http://forums.oscommerce.com) at forums.oscommerce.com
Good luck!
