It looks good, but that header image is huge... filesize, not physical size... well, that too, but I actually don't mind that. it's 330k Youc an easily get it down to around 40k with Photoshop's save for web option, or something similar.

Use CSS so the background doesn't repeat. On a high resolution, people will see the background repeat horizontally.

Other than that, not too bad with the dark grunge look.

I like the graphics! If I were doing it, I think I would make the text a little easier to read, the contrast between text and background is very difficult for my poor eyes to pick up. But a cool looking page! Tammy

yep this is wot we mean:

also the text in the image seems to be cut off on the right

CSS for starters will indeed stop the repeating

header is waaaay too big for me - we're on a T1 here and it still makes me wait so long I'm bored. of course, it all depends on your audience. if you don't care about attracting casual surfers, then it doesn't matter! people that are already interested will wait.

I love the colors you've used but like previously stated - the header size is a bit much. If you made it 'autoscroll' to the left or something instead of having the user have to do it.. now that would be interesting.

Jars of clay has something of the sort, but the 'mouse' controls the scrolling.

I think this design is pretty solid.

The only thing I dislike is the motion blur effect which is placed on the site name.

I also think the header scrolling feature could be done much more effectively using flash if that was your goal. To be honest, I wouldn't have known I was supposed to scroll it until I saw it mentioned in a previous post.

Other than that, nice work.

:)

Note: The size, download time and all that jazz really depends on the sites demographic. Case in point is my site. I know it has some HUGE graphics...but I also know my demographic is 1024X768 at a VAST majority of my site viewers, and almost all of which use some sort of high speed connection. So it is not that much of a concern to me.

You know, after reading some of the comments about the size of the header, I think I kind of like it. It certainly is different. It makes the page memorable to me. Anything you can do to make people remember your page versus all the others out there is good.

That is very true.

I have had a lot of people email me telling me that my content is far down on my site.

Like I didn't know that?

I think a site can get away with more of what is traditionally frowned upon in design if your site has a very artistic bent. I think both your site & starless-day's are gorgeous visually. I think that kind of design is just hard to do well. Same thing with things like splash pages. They can be done well, but too often you get a 700k animated gif of a flaming guitar or something.

I do have to say though that the LOTR graphics are way too big filesizewise. Took me FOREVER to load! :) And I agree about lightening things up. Probably looks fine on your moniter, but I can't read the blog text without highlighting it. And I barely noticed the scrollbar arrows... might want to up them a shade or two, otherwise people may not know they can scroll.

Beautiful job overall though. I especially like the 2 frames your blog & content are in.

It was 'dredged' up 30 days before the contest. :b So there should be no problems.. and you still have yet to answer my question in OD! :b go go go!

yep. I do.

Get used to it though - its just one of my many flaws. No question goes unanswered!

Very artistic and nice colors.

However because I usually have my monitor brightness pretty low, I can barely see the writing and the menu.
It would be nice if they could at least highlight when you go over the text with the mouse.

Needs a little bit of work. Much of my problem with it have already been mentioned.

1. I can barely see the writing and the menu.
It would be nice if they could at least highlight when you go over the text with the mouse.

2. the LOTR graphics are way too big filesizewise

3. adjust the colors though, and get a little separation between objects

4. Home is behind, The world ahead and there are many paths to tread through shadow to.... to where? Seems like something is missing.

Not bad for a youngster: (Helle Lindenberg [ say 'heylee']
), born in 1985.

I actually like the large heading... it didn't take long at all to load. But then in a smaller screen resolution it might look odd (I didn't try it, it looks perfect in 1024X768)

It is really hard to read the dark blue text though... I would definately change the color.
