Ok I'm starting up an article based site for those people who like to write about stuff and then get them published on a website where others can read there point of views and what they have written. So if your interested I'm still working on the article submission system but you can join the forums and write about you feeling there and then when the article submission done you will be one of the first to get published and you will also have a better chance at becomeing a mod or super mod on the forums. Check us out at www.surrix.net

What sort of topics would the articles be about? Just general topics like opinions & news?

Or could it be movies, or games, or is it just anything?

Actually we are looking for tech articles as that is what the focus of our site is going to be.

So like reviews on computers, etc. or discussions about bigger things like 'why are computers taking over the world' etc.

Are computers taking over the world? That would be scary :-)

Think about it. Where would we be without computers. Hospitals would stop working properly, more people would die. There would be car accidents and no way to get help to your homes without running to the fire station and yelling (my house is on fire!). We have to come to rely on computers and electricity a lot - and without it it would be a lot harder to live, and I don't know if we could do it.

Yeah, you are right.
For a minute there I was imagining computer slavedrivers, or something like the matrix... lol
I think computers & technology are cool-- but then it really sucks that we are so dependant on them.
Aren't there still Amish farmers? They live without electricity or technology, don't they?
It would be awesome if there was some way to use computers, but if we weren't dependant on them.
Imagine what would happen if electricity just stopped everywhere for a week. Eeshh.

well... if computers are taking over the world, then you could say the world was already conquered by things like... fire, electricity, telephony... :O and so on.
:P
in any case, some of the amish DO use computers.
buuut back to the point of the thread:
how long are the articles you'd want?
are they going to be edited or self submitted?
i coded a little script using invision forums for publishing articles. ... but my navigation for it isn't quite working yet...
example: http://endignorance.com/?data=article&column=13

Actually if you surf over to the site you will notice we are using vBulletin and I'm almost done with our own but thanks for the info.
As for the articles length is not a problem basically you need to say whatever you are going to say and have it complete.
We are looking for all kinds of articles the are computers taking over the world would probably fall into the general category so basically reviews, and view point articles are what we want.
You can view what I have completed of the portal/CMS by adding index.php to the domain name.
Articles are reviewd before the are posted for grammer, spelling and the suchs and we arn't going to be strick about it but it needs to be readable and understandable. We will also review for technical correctness as well but again same applys as above and we probably won't catch it but I mean if we are a computer website we hope everything is correct as it can be.
If you would like to write go ahead and sign up at Surrix.net forums and PM Patrick that you are interested and I will tell you how to submit.

You're right... the world HAS been taken over by elecricity and telephony (and computers) :-)
The scary thing about that is that we are so dependant on them.
Fire? Well, I don't think fire will ever cease to exist, so I don't think we need to be worried about our dependancy on it.
We could also say that the sun has taken over the earth... as we're completely dependant on the sun. And the universe. And gravity. And plants. and on and on....

Doesn't that sort of violate the whole point of amishness (is that a word? hmm).
I thought they were not supposed to use electricity or cars or anything like that... but maybe if you just use it a little and not regularly it doesn't count?

I think it's hard to resist using things that could help. Think about it. If you're out in a field and your horse runs you over, your wife would have to have the horse pull the wagon into town and take you to the hospital, because there's no way the could call from their home. They have to lead safe lives as well - without electricity life isn't as safe.

Maybe nowadays it isn't... but remember, people lived for hundreds of years without electricity :-)

see.. that's the thing about the amish.
there is no central amish authority... so each little amish group operates fully on their own behalf.
and their dogma isn't anti-technology, they've just got a simple outlook: if it isn't a necessity, or if it divides the family, they won't use it.

so back to the writing...
do you have examples of what kind of articles you'd like to have?

For example our first big feature is going to take a look at Media Players. This will be kind of 3 articles in one big thing but we will review Winamp, WMP, and Real and in each the actuall writer will input his thoughts to kind of to make it a feature article from back in Highschool.
Anything releated to tech for instance I have one coming up on How the Matrix is releated to the Bible so really it would be about almost anything.
I guess if you wanted to know the style format it would be feature articles give the facts but don't make it boring so give you thoughts and make witty comments.
